Allen H. Weg, Ed. D.

NJ Licensed Psychologist #2720

Dr. Allen Weg received his Bachelors in Psychology from Cortland State University, New York, and his Masters in Clinical-Experimental Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey. He received his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and is a New Jersey licensed psychologist.

Dr. Weg is founder and director of Stress and Anxiety Services of New Jersey, PA, an independent practice in East Brunswick, New Jersey in Middlesex County. He had also worked as a Senior Psychologist in the outpatient department of Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center in Bridgewater, New Jersey for 14 years, until November, 2000.

In both of these settings, he has over the years treated scores of individuals and run many groups for the treatment of Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Specific Phobias, Social Phobia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. He has also has considerable experience with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Trichotillomania, and Habit Control, as well as non-anxiety focused work with persons suffering from depression, grief and loss, personality disorders, marital and sexual problems, adult children of alcoholics, and adults sexually abused as children. He has since 1991 served as a clinical field supervisor for the Psychological Clinic at Rutgers University, where he supervises graduate students in the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology and Rutgers Ph.D. program.

While he initially worked only with adults, Dr. Weg began to accept children and adolescents into his practice in 1996.  This change came in response to multiple complaints by concerned parents who reported to Dr. Weg that they were having difficulty finding child psychologists who were competent in the cognitive behavioral treatment of OCD.  At that time, Dr. Weg initiated post-doctoral training with some of the country’s most prominent specialists in the treatment of pediatric OCD.  He has since himself presented workshops on this topic to mental health professional organizations, and has expanded his work to include not only children and adolescents with OCD, but also youngsters who suffer with other types of anxiety disorders.

He has previously for a period of nine years served as a consultant to the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, where he offered regular presentations on stress management topics, smoking cessation, and a variety of communication and life management skills. This was presented as part of Live For Life, an employee wellness program, to more than a dozen J&J companies in Central New Jersey, and to audiences often numbering over 100.

For a period of four years, Dr. Weg had served as a member of the Board of Directors and scientific advisor, for Panic Relief, Inc., an organization dedicated to the education, support, and referral for panic sufferers. He had written a featured article in every issue of the Panic Relief News during that four year period, wherein he reviewed, in detail, a cognitive-behavioral treatment program for panic.

He is one of the original founders and presently Vice President of the New Jersey Affiliate of the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation: an arm of the national OCF  in Connecticut, which is dedicated to the support, education and treatment of those suffering with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.  Dr. Weg's many roles in this organization include that of being co-editor and one of the regular contributing writers of the organization's newsletter, which goes out to over 1,000 New Jersey OCD sufferers and mental health professionals.

In addition, Dr. Weg is a member of the Steering Committee of the New Jersey Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists, the premiere Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) organization in New Jersey that promotes the training and development of CBT therapists throughout the state via a series of seminars, workshops and newsletters.

In September, 2003, Dr. Weg became one of a small handful of professionals who were the first to be trained at the annual retreat run by the Trichotillomania Learning Center (TLC).  TLC is the premiere organization in the world involved in the treatment, research and support for the problem of compulsive hair pulling and BFRBs (Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors, which include skin picking and nail biting).  At the close of the 3 day seminar, trainees were informed that as of that moment, they were the best formally trained professionals in the world for the specific treatment of Compulsive Hair Pulling and other BFRBs.
